Bunfight and Carnival weekend – 29/30 Nov

The end of November brought our now traditional weekend of Ceilidh and Carnival! First on Sat 29th November came our annual Bunfight ceilidh, this year with a theme of ‘The Ugly Bugs Ball’ which it was thought might be a tricky one to dress in line with but in reality we had plenty of creepy crawlies to brighten the evening. Music came once again from the Diatonics with some specially curated songs thrown into the ceilidh mix, of which Derek’s drawling ‘Boris the Spider’ had to be a highlight. Nick Walden called his usual excellent range of dances, and in the first interval BB contributed a costumed Boggle, which went OK though Tom’s sleeping bag costume did prove a little problematic. BBs main spot in the second interval was a Kraftwerk inspired routine including ‘Das Hokey Cokey’, ‘Kopf, Schulter, Knie und Fuss’ and ‘Ich bin eine kliene Teekanne’, all while dressed in sombre black outfits brightened only by the coloured ties last seen in 2014’s spot. And in the obligatory encore, after the audience had been told categorically “not” to join in, of course many of them did as had been hoped! Overall another great evening in the pantheon of Bunfights….

The following day saw us once again at the Wokingham Winter Carnival, an event which has grown enormously in size over its 30 years, but which we always enjoy attending even though the late November weather can be a challenge. This year though the day was bright and not too cold, and we enjoyed our dance spots at the end of Denmark Street. Being directly outside the Lord Raglan also proved convenient, especially at lunchtime where several of the team went for the full Sunday lunch option, which we understand David was still digesting several days later. But great to see the town full, lots going on, all the stalls bustling, and we felt gave a good account of ourselves during the day.
