The main event of our summer – a week long appearance at Whitby Folk Week, where we had last been in 2019. And what a week it was! Some great dance spots with other fine festival teams at Captain Cook’s monument (the Whalebone Arch), the Bandstand, and Dock End. We also had some excellent social occasions, including an evening meal in the Captains Quarters on The Endeavour, a gin-ny afternoon at the Rusty Shears, and a competitive mini golf match with Sussex Junction (but no-one wants to know who won, do they?). Perhaps the highlight for us though was a ceilidh spot on the Thursday evening, our last day, at the 60’s themed ceilidh, where we decided to portray the story of the 1966 World Cup Final through the medium of interpretative dance. Robert and George had planned the spot, a 3 part act – first half (Highland Mary), second half (Boggle), extra time (Mazurka), while Jen had resourced outfits for the 2 teams, the musicians also had suitable costumes, Roy had made a fabulous trophy, and Malcolm introduced and refereed. Despite limited rehearsal and co-opting Rhys back into the team at short notice to make up numbers, the spot seemed to go down well with the audience and we were able to finish our week on something of a high.
